Young Swedish striker Rafael York is travelling to England today to undertake a ten day trial at Watford.

The 16-year-old, who plays for Swedish fourth-tier club Sandviken, has attracted interest from clubs across Europe but the Hornets have been given the first opportunity to cast their eye over the youngster.

That is because of the relationship Golden Boys owner Gino Pozzo has with York’s agent Patrick Mörk.

Since 2001, when Mörk helped bring midfielder Sulley Muntari to Udinese from Ghanaian side Liberty Professionals FC, Pozzo and the Swedish agent have worked together on a number of transfers.

And Mörk believes York, who has represented Sweden Under-17s, could be the pair’s latest deal.

Speaking to the Watford Observer this morning, he said: “Rafael is a really good striker. Lots of clubs in Europe are looking at him but the only place he will go [on trial] is Watford.

“He has decided to say in the Swedish fourth division because he is playing first-team football. If he went to a bigger club in Sweden he would probably be in the Under-17s or Under-19s.

“But we will see what happens at Watford. He may have to make a difficult decision to go abroad if he convinces Watford [to sign him].”

Mörk added: “They (Watford) know about him. They have checked up on him. Whenever I have a player from Africa or Scandinavia who I think is ready for a bigger club I first speak to Gino.

“I have a close relationship with him. Sometime he signs a player just on his instinct, which is very good. Other times he will watch a player carefully many times. He is a very good person work with.”
