Emmanuel Adebayor has, for the second time this season, been linked with a move to Watford. Hornets skipper Troy Deeney says the striker has undoubted quality but accepts question marks remain over the 31-year-old’s temperament.

The Togo international has played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur during his nine years in England but - while at times producing impressive performances - has often fallen out with managers and with supporters.

And his time at previous club Spurs ended acrimoniously. His contract was cancelled in September after Adebayor fell out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino and turned down a summer move to West Ham United or Aston Villa.

The striker has reportedly been looking to train with a Premier League side in a bid to build up his fitness ahead of a January move.

Watford turned down a request from Adebayor last month but that hasn’t stopped the national press linking the former Monaco man with a switch to Vicarage Road.

“As a striker I’d happily say go somewhere else please mate,” Deeney joked during an interview with talkSPORT this morning. “This is the first of it I’ve heard to be fair so I’m not sure.

“He is a good player but there are questions marks about his temperament. Our owner isn’t naïve enough to bring in any bad eggs in so I think they’d assess that angle if they were considering to bring him in.

“But his quality is there for everyone to see. If you can get that out of him then you’ve got a top player on their hands.”
