England captain Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of tomorrow's game at Watford due to illness.

Manchester United have posted extracts from Louis van Gaal's pre-match conference on Twitter in which the Red Devils boss has also confirmed Michael Carrick, Anthony Martial, Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia are out of the Premier League clash due to injury.

Young striker James Wilson is available but will not be able to play the full 90 minutes "due to a lack of match rhythm".

United currently lie fourth in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Manchester City, but the trip to Vicarage Road is set to be the first time van Gaal's side have started a game this season in any competition without Rooney or Martial, who left Wembley on crutches following France's 2-0 defeat against England on Tuesday, in their match-day 18.

Excerpts of van Gaal's pre-match press conference have been broadcast on Sky Sports and the Dutchman spoke about the members of his sqaud directly affected by last Friday's terrorist atrocity in Paris.

Martial, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger were all involved in France's friendly against Germany when the Stade de France was targeted by suicide bombers and van Gaal said: “For every human being in this world it’s a big blow. I don’t think I have to mention what our discussions were but Martial cannot play because he is injured. Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin can play, if we don’t take into account this event what has happened."

The Premier League announced yesterday La Marseillaise will be played before every top-flight game this weekend in an act of solidarity with the French and van Gaal added: “We, as a member of the sport of football, we cannot do too much but we can give support [symbolically] and I think this is a nice thing for the French people, for the victims, for the relatives of the victims. I think it can give them force and strength to survive.”
