Quique Sanchez Flores has confirmed Abdoulaye Doucoure and Adalberto Penaranda will return to Watford from their loans at Granada in the summer and believes the pair could be amazing for the Hornets.

Doucoure, 23, joined the Hornets from Rennes before joining Pozzo-owned sister club Granada until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Penaranda, 18, will return to El Grana on loan after trading Udinese for Watford late on Monday evening.

He won’t, as reported elsewhere, remain with the La Liga outfit until the end of the 2016/17 campaign and will instead link-up with the Golden Boys for pre-season.

Asked why the Hornets’ two deadline day acquisitions, both signed on four-and-a-half-year deals, have immediately been sent on loan to Spain, Flores said: "The reason he (Doucoure) is not here is we want players here with the possibility to play.

“Now we have five amazing central midfielders. This player is younger so it’s necessary for him to continue playing. He’s in a good league – a top division – so for us it’s important he plays until the end of the season.

“When he comes to the squad next season he will come with a positive mentality and try to win a space in the squad.

“It’s the same idea [with Penaranda] – to add good players; young players who in one or two years could be amazing for us,” Flores continued.

“We’ve incorporated three top players and two top young players [in January]. For Watford it’s amazing because we are working with a project.

“The mentality we have before we sign players is to sign good players but players who feel inside they will stay with Watford; who are thinking about the future and the project.”

The signing of Penaranda is seen as something of a coup for the Hornets. The Venezuelan broke Lionel Messi’s record as the youngest non-Spaniard to score a brace in La Liga in December and was already Granada’s youngest ever player.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, Watford couldn’t afford to waste time in attempting to secure the teenager’s services.

“We needed to move quickly with this player because he was playing really well in a very important league, the Spanish league,” explained Flores.

“He’s a very interesting player. He’s powerful, young, playing well and scoring goals.

"It was necessary to move quickly and I think the club moved really well when we had the possibility to incorporate Penaranda for next year.”

Flores has yet to meet Penaranda but will be in touch with Granada head coach Jose Ramon Sandoval to get updates on the two whilst they are with the Andalusian club.

And Flores believes the signing of two young prospects is a big statement for the Hornets.

He said: “I think it’s very good news for Watford fans. It means Watford are growing.

“A lot of good players want to come here to play for Watford so we are really happy.

“We incorporated top players like (Nordin) Amrabat, Mario (Suarez) and (Costel) Pantilimon. And including Penaranda and Doucoure we have one of the best young players in Europe.

“So we are really happy because it means Watford is a really attractive team and club for players.”

Asked if he was pleased with the club’s activity in the transfer window, Flores replied: “Yes, I’m completely satisfied.

“I think we worked a lot in the last month and a half about the recuperation of the team.

"Finally we signed the players we wanted so I’m really happy with the incorporation of the last signings.”
