Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores celebrates his 51st birthday today but there will be no lavish celebration. That will come when the Hornets ensure their Premier League survival, the Spaniard says.

Flores has won plenty of admirers since taking change at Vicarage Road in the summer through his charming personality and the fact he's turned Watford into a very effective Premier League side.

He has earned a day of celebration but with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur to come tomorrow it will have to wait.

“I would like to celebrate but I can’t,” Flores joked when speaking to the press this morning. “I will celebrate with lunch with my family and my kids.”

As soon as lunch is over the Spaniard will be back to focusing on Tottenham.

Watford travel to White Hart Lane after recapturing their best form. The four defeats in January have been quickly forgotten.

It’s proved to be only a blip - every team has them in a season - as Flores’ side have taken four points from their last two games and travel to north London with confidence.

They have accumulated 33 points from 24 games. Staying in the Premier League looks an ever increasingly likely outcome.

“My big celebration this year would be to keep Watford in the Premier League,” Flores said.

“The day that we achieve the points we need to remain in the Premier League will be perfect.

“When we stay up then there is the possibility for many things. It will allow the players to play without pressure.

“It’s what Leicester have done this season. They play every game free and the players are completely happy.”

The likely scenario of staying up will also give Watford every chance to establish themselves in the top flight.

The Hornets hierarchy have done excellently this season to recruit top quality players.

But they did so with Watford being a newly promoted side. That wouldn’t be a stigma attached to the club this summer.

“It was difficult to sign good players last summer and that is normal for a club that has just been promoted,” Flores admitted.

“We had to show everyone that we could play at a good level in the Premier League. We’ve shown anything is possible and players now want to come here.

“It’s an exciting project. The fact players like Mario (Suarez), (Nordin) Amrabat and (Costel) Pantilimon have come here means more good players will want to come here to Watford in the future.”
