Watford have barely ventured out of their own half during the opening 45 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur but, thanks to several good saves by Heurelho Gomes, the game is goalless at the break.

Quique Sanchez Flores made five changes to the Watford starting XI which started Wednesday’s draw with Chelsea. Most notable of which was Troy Deeney, the Hornets’ captain, was on the bench.

Allan Nyom, Miguel Britos, Nathan Ake and Almen Abdi were the other players brought into the Hornets side which was set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Spurs started the contest brightly and they maintained their dominance throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Watford struggled to keep the ball and with Deeney on the bench there was no physical presence up front.

Tottenham continuously won back possession in midfield and quickly broke on the Hornets’ defence.

Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies offered constant outlets out wide and they were arguably the hosts’ main threats.

Davies came close to breaking the deadlock on three occasions after getting forward.

His first shot rippled the side netting before Gomes saved the Welsh international’s next two efforts.

Nacer Chadli also headed a presentable opportunity wide for Spurs and Lamela forced Gomes into a near post save.

Watford’s only chance was a shot from 30 yards from Almen Abdi which landed on the roof of Hugo Lloris net after the French stopper had come off his line.

Other than that the Hornets didn’t threaten and a change appeared to be needed at the break.
