Romanian side Rapid Bucharest are in talks with the Hornets to sign George Byers on loan until the end of the season, the Watford Observer understands.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who has made one first-team appearance, has been a regular member of Harry Kewell’s Under-21 side this season and was part of the Watford squad which travelled to India to partake in the Nagjee Cup this month.
During the tournament the Hornets took on Rapid and recorded a 2-0 victory.
Byers captained Watford during that win and created Bernard Mensah's opening goal.
We understand watching Bucharest manager Dan Alexa sounded out Kewell after the game to speak about the youngster.
Rapid, who are top of the Romanian second division, subsequently decided to pursue a move for Byers and opened talks with the Hornets.
Bucharest hope to conclude a deal before their domestic transfer window closes today.
Byers joined Watford at the age of seven and made his debut for the club as an 82nd minute substitute in last season’s 5-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.
