Walter Mazzarri's grasp of the English language and his ability to communicate with the players will be crucial to his chances of success at Watford, according to Italian football expert Tancredi Palmeri.

Mazzarri was appointed the Hornets' new head coach on a three-year deal this morning and has been in England over the last year in an effort to learn the language.

The former Inter Milan and Napoli boss has even spent time living with a family in the country and is determined to make his mark in his first coaching job in the Premier League.

Palmeri said: “The thing with Mazzarri is that so far he had issues in performing when he had pressure on him. But when he had time to work and his team started as outsiders he gave the best.

"In my opinion the key always in this situation and for this kind of manager is how good he is with language because it’s absolutely important.

“But he has been one year training with English language learning it and spending time living in England. He spent time living for a while in a family to upgrade in his fluency.

"I don’t know how good he is at the moment but he has been working on that last year. It is absolutely important."

Mazzarri is renowned as being obsessed with tactics and Palmeri believes the Italian's ability to communicate his own ideas to the Watford players will be crucial to his hopes of flourishing at Vicarage Road. 

The beIN sports correspondent said: “The main key in my opinion is how Mazzarri is bossing the language and how he feels confident in communicating because communicating his ideas and belief in them is vital.

"It’s not only about talking and telling them play to the right and left and tracking back to recover the ball.

"It’s transmitting this belief in his ideas which in my opinion is the main issue when a manager comes over and he must make the players understand those tactics."
