Watford winger Steven Berghuis received an unexpected call-up to the Netherlands squad while on holiday in New York.
The Hornets midfielder was taking a break in America when he received the call to replaced the injured Bart Ramselaar and Jurgen Locadia.
Berghuis is yet to make his full international debut and will hope to feature for the national team in games against the Republic of Ireland on Friday, Poland on June 1 and Austria on June 4.
Berghuis told Voetbal International: "I was walking on Fifth Avenue when I had a missed call. I called back and when I did they announced me with the squad.
"I had absolutely not taken into account. All season I had no part in the Dutch national team and I was not in the pre-selection, so my vacation had started.
"I'd sacrifice my vacation for this training camp and the upcoming duels with Orange."
The 24-year-old did not make a league start for the Hornets in his first season in England following his move from AZ Alkmaar last summer.
