There has been no easing into life under new Watford boss Walter Mazzarri this pre-season, according to summer signing Jerome Sinclair.

Mazzarri was in the dugout for the first time as his side played out a 1-1 draw with Woking at the Kingfield Stadium yesterday, where the Hornets lined up in the 3-5-2 formation he has favoured during his career.

Sinclair made his Watford bow as a half-time substitute and came close to firing them in front in a lively debut for the ex-Liverpool striker.

After the match, he revealed the Hornets squad had been worked hard on getting used to the new shape and style it appears they will adopt permanently, while they have also spent their pre-season staying in a hotel together.

The 19-year-old said: “We’ve done a lot of tactical work in training and he wants to get all the lads organised and playing in his style.

“It’s a new ideology and so he has to enforce that on the lads but it’s going well so far.

“When a new manager comes in he has to impose his style and the lads have been really good, we’re all taking it in so hopefully it’ll work out well for us.

“In any pre-season you have to get the lads prepared for a long season in the Premier League it’s always going to be tough, but it has been hard.”

Sinclair said having his new team mates as neighbours had helped to integrate him into the group he joined a fortnight ago, after a £2million move from Liverpool, but revealed others were less sold on the temporary living arrangements.

He said: “We’ve been staying in the hotel and going back and forth from the training ground.

"For me I would have had to be staying there anyway so it hasn’t been much different and maybe some of the lads haven’t been so keen but it’s been ok.

“It’s been a lot of bonding but it’s a great bunch of lads and I’ve found it really easy to settle in – it’s been fine so far."
