Watford transfer target Saido Berahino has turned down a new contract at West Brom.

The Hornets have been interested for some time in the 22-year-old striker, who has endured a topsy-turvy relationship with his current club over the past year.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace was believed to be holding out for £20million for his prized asset, despite the fact he is out of contract next June.

But that view could change with his future at The Hawthorns in doubt following the news he has turned down a new four-year deal.

Berahino was frozen out of part of the Baggies' Premier League campaign last season and was without a start for more than two months across November to January.

He managed just four Premier League goals in a bad-tempered season, and missed two penalties in West Brom's home defeat to Watford in April.

Watford have already opened their chequebook to bring record-signing Isaac Success to Vicarage Road this summer, as well as Liverpool striker Jerome Sinclair, but are still in the hunt for another forward ahead of the new campaign.
