Watford have confirmed the signing of Marseille defender Brice Dja Djédjé on a four-year deal.

The right wing-back is believed to have cost €3.5m and becomes the club's fifth signing of the summer.

Djédjé made 70 appearances during two and a half years at Marseille.

The Ivory Coast international has played seven times for his country and has also represented them at Under-23 and Under-20 level.

Djedje told L'Équipe: "I had other proposals, yes, even a German club, but I preferred to sign for Watford because this is a good club. I will find some former players of Ligue 1 and because it allows me to set foot in the Premier League.”

He added: "I had discussed with the coach (Walter Mazzarri), who also wanted me to sign when he was at Napoli (2009 to 2013).

“I feel with him I can continue to progress. He wants to play his 3-5-2 team, this is a system that suits me well because we played in a slightly similar way with Marcelo (Bielsa).”

Mazzarri has adopted a 3-5-2 formation throughout his coaching career and Djédjé is likely to slot into the role in the right wing-back position for the Premier League side.
