Watford will be without summer signing Brice Dja Djédjé and Isaac Success is also set to miss Saturday's Premier League opener at Southampton.

Wing-back Djédjé already had a foot injury when he joined the club last month and is expected to be on the sidelines for a number of weeks.

Striker Success, who also joined the club this summer, is suffering from a leg muscle injury which is likely to prevent him from making his competitive debut for the Hornets this weekend.

Valon Behrami and Adlene Guedioura are still recovering their fitness after recent injuries which leaves them as doubts for the opener.

Head coach Walter Mazzarri said: “There are some players, for example Guedioura, who are recovering from past injuries so we need to evaluate them.

“Brice is a new player but unfortunately he is injured. Success also it’s probably impossible for him to be able to play. They will probably miss the game but for Valon and Adlene it’s just a matter of evaluating their fitness.

“Djédjé has a problem with his foot which he already had when he signed. Success has a muscle injury and sometimes it takes longer in terms of his recovery but we need to speak with Richard Collinge [head of medical] to evaluate the exact time. We know 99 per cent against Southampton he won’t be available to play.”

The Saints are also under new management after Claude Puel replaced Ronald Koeman following his move to Everton.

Southampton have sold Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle and Victor Wanyama this summer with midfielder Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg joining from Bayern Munich along with Norwich attacker Nathan Redmond.

Mazzarri said: “I know a lot and have been informed about Southampton. We know they changed manager recently and followed them in their friendlies, the same as they probably followed us in our matches.”
