Watford midfielder Mario Suarez is expected to leave the club before the transfer window shuts and Valencia are reportedly keen to sign him.

The 29-year-old did not feature in the Hornets' squad for their opening draw at Southampton yesterday and appears to be well down the pecking order at the club.

Head coach Walter Mazzarri will be able to call on Abdoulaye Doucoure, who was suspended for the first Premier League game, next weekend and the Premier League side are in the market for a creative midfielder.

Suarez failed to make an impression at Vicarage Road after joining from Fiorentina in January as he only made eight league starts and struggled to adapt to the pace of the English game.

Valencia coach Pako Ayestaran has admitted the club are interested in signing Suarez and a move back to Spain for the former Atletico Madrid midfielder looks inevitable.

Speaking about the decision to leave out Suarez yesterday, Mazzarri said: "I made the best choices from what I’ve seen lately from the team.

"Unfortunately you can take only 18 players. If I change ideas in the future for me it’s no problem to change the formation or players."
