Daryl Janmaat will miss Monday night's game at Burnley after being ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.
The Netherlands international wing-back was taken off in the 51st minute of the Hornets' 3-1 home win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The 27-year-old will not require an operation but is likely to be out of action for between four to six weeks.
It is a blow for Watford after the defender's promising start at the club following his move last month from Newcastle United.
Janmaat impressed against United and set up the hosts' opening goal which was scored by Etienne Capoue.
It means Nordin Amrabat is in line to return to the side for their televised clash at Turf Moor.
