Watford head coach Walter Mazzarri wants more from his side offensively despite their 1-0 win at Middlesbrough.

The Hornets were far from at their best during a scrappy contest but Jose Holebas' winner earned the points.

Watford kept their first clean sheet of the season but only had two shots on target during a forgettable match.

Mazzarri said: “We played better in other games for sure compared to today. Yes it was enough but there were games like Southampton and many games at home where we managed to play much better than today.

"I’m happy with the overall defensive performance but I want my team to create much more goal opportunities and to be more attacking."

The Hornets worked on improving their defensive qualities and Mazzarri was pleased with this aspect from the game.

The Italian said: “The performance was very good defensively but I think we can do better in the overall performance of the game. We have done much better in other games. We played better in the games before this except for Burnley.

“We had a lot of attention mainly defensively and this was mainly on the crosses, corners and free-kicks which we were allowing much more in previous games.

"In the first half we were making some mistakes on the right side and were allowing them too much space. I corrected some of the things at half-time and we didn’t allow them anything else for the second half."
