Better teams than Watford will get turned over with ease by Jurgen Klopp's side in that form - so there was no need to hand them opportunity after opportunity to play their free-flowing football.

Marking was, at times, non-existant, the understanding between players seemed to have evaporated overnight, and a bewildering attempt to play Liverpool at their own game was always doomed for failure.

Even before Sadio Mane opened the scoring 27 minutes in, the Reds were in full control, as they inflicted Watford's joint-heaviest Premier League defeat.

Here's how we rated Watford's sorry showing:

Heurelho Gomes - 7
Couldn't really be faulted for the opening two goals, may have wanted to do better with Philippe Coutinho's shot but that would be a tad harsh considering he injured himself in the process of trying to do so. Some smart early stops from Milner and Lucas before he was forced off.

Daryl Janmaat - 5
Yes, the Dutchman scored on his return, but by that point he had already lost Mane for Liverpool's opener, and been turned too easily by Coutinho for the second. Of course he'll cut inside, he's right footed. And the worst part was he'd already done it to Janmaat minutes earlier, but he didn't learn.

Younes Kaboul - 4
Slow to react to the sixth from Giorgino Wijnaldum, although of course the game was long gone by that point. Along with Miguel Britos had no idea where Liverpool's front three were headed all afternoon.

Miguel Britos - 4
Really silly booking to give away and like his centre-back colleague, was just all over the shop. Once nice flick nearly gave the visitors a consolation in the second half, but his job is to defend and he didn't.

Jose Holebas - 4
Also booked for a silly challenge and offered very little defensively down the Watford left; the third goal came from his side, the fifth saw him outpaced by Roberto Firmino, it was a day to forget for the Greece international.

Nordin Amrabat - 6
Has taken a bit of a pasting since the game but was Watford's sole outlet in the opening 15 minutes before Liverpool took control, and nearly found Odion Ighalo with an early fizzed cross. Yes he offered little defensively, but he was not playing as a conventional wing-back and the hosts overloaded him by bombing Emre Can down their left fairly regularly.

Etienne Capoue - 5
One decent effort in the second half, but like the defenders, got horribly overrun in midfield and had little chance of playing through Henderson and Can.

Valon Behrami - 4
Considering his job was to break up play, he was as ineffectual as he has been for a long time in that role at Anfield. Never really put his foot on the ball and halted the Liverpool charge, and was a passenger too often.

Roberto Pereyra - 4
Not a game to remember, in fact it's difficult to remember Pereyra's impact for much of the game. Made no affect on the match in a game he would have fancied given his Juventus pedigree.

Odion Ighalo - 4
Ok, he's not a targetman, and he has had some unfair criticism this season. But he looked largely disinterested when balls came to him over the top and let Liverpool hit them straight back down the other end.

Troy Deeney - 5
Tried his best with precious little service. Won a fair bit in the air, but with no one to win it for. One lovely little turn to feed Capoue near the end, which the Frenchman should have buried.

Subsitutes

Costel Pantilimon (for Gomes, 33) - 7
Played the final hour and pulled off a couple of stunning saves, the most impressive to tip Daniel Sturridge's late drive onto the bar. Liverpool had more shots on target than any other team has since Opta began taking stats in 2003 - so it's credit to him that they didn't score more.

Ben Watson (for Behrami, 61) - 6
Made a couple of decent tackles and was more secure in possession than the man he replaced. Damage limitation by this point, however.
