Watford Under-18 coach David Horseman believes the team have put their FA Youth Cup defeat behind them after beating Ipswich Town 1-0 at London Colney on Saturday.

The Hornets ended a run of six games without a victory after their win over the Tractor Boys.

It was a welcome result for Watford after their 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Norwich City in the FA Youth Cup last week.

Horseman told the club website: “For the boys it puts the FA Youth Cup result during the week to bed. We reviewed the match and have moved on well.

"It’s good for everyone and the result will make us happier next week. Taking some knocks is all part of it.”

Ipswich made a bright start and went close through Declan Daniels but he headed over the crossbar.

The hosts had a scare shortly afterwards when Conor McKendry's strike was deflected onto the bar.

Watford's first opportunity fell to Jubril Adedeji but his header at the back post was saved by goalkeeper Nicholas Hayes.

The breakthrough came when McKendry's clearance fell to Adedjo and he fired a low shot into the net.

Ipswich kept the pressure on at the start of the second half with a long-range strike from McKendry forcing a save from home keeper Jamie Lacy.

Adedeji almost scored his second goal of the game but his header was superbly kept out by Hayes' save.

At the other end, Albert Wilton set up Jack Lankester but his effort was blocked by Lacy.

The final chance fell to goalscorer Adedeji but his shot was saved by Hayes as the game finished in a slender win for the Hornets.
