It’s the issue that has got many in football and beyond talking and now the player who Harry the Hornet’s comical dive was directed at has responded via social media as the pair shared a joke.
In case you weren’t at Vicarage Road yesterday, have not seen the footage on TV or any other media platform, or have been wholly preoccupied with enjoying the festive season for the last 24 hours, it all stemmed from incident late on in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road when referee Mark Clattenburg booked Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha for simulation after going down in the penalty area following minimal contact from Miguel Britos.
As the Palace winger was applauding the fans after the game, the Watford mascot walked past him on the pitch and dived to the amusement of many who witnessed it.
While Hornets boss Walter Mazzarri played down the incident – “Let’s laugh altogether about this” – new Palace boss Sam Allardyce said: "The mascot is out of order, isn't he? If someone is diving, they don't get that angry.
"There's contact. It [the penalty] wasn't given."
The former England then went on to suggest there might be consequences for the mascot.
"That's up to Watford to sort that out, really," he said. "The Premier League and FA can look at that and do what they want to do.
"It could have made the wrong reaction, as we know. But I didn't see it. I'm more concerned about my team, the overall performance."
Zaha has now posted his response via Twitter this lunchtime
