Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has refused to rule out Jerome Sinclair leaving on loan this month despite the striker scoring in their win over Burton.

The former Liverpool striker netted his first goal for the club after a superb solo effort in the Hornets' FA Cup victory.

But Sinclair has been linked with a loan switch to a Championship club and the Watford boss implied this was still an option before the transfer window shuts.

Mazzarri said: “We will see because Jerome is a very young player that needs to play of course as much as possible.

"He’s a player that is very interesting with great potential but we want to keep performing the best possible way in the Premier League while playing with young players.

"It’s not easy, as I said the January transfer market is very difficult but we need to understand what’s going to happen in the transfer market with what players are coming in and going out."

Mazzarri believes the 20-year-old needed his breakthrough goal to underline the potential which encouraged the club to give him a five-year deal last summer.

The Watford boss said: “I saw him [Sinclair] in the first half and a bit in the game against Stoke a bit locked and he’s a player that needed this goal in order for him to unlock himself.

"Hopefully he will be the Sinclair I always see in training. He managed to score a great goal today."
