West Brom are reportedly prepared to break the bank in order to prise Watford captain Troy Deeney away from Vicarage Road this summer.

With the Baggies eager to strengthen their attacking options, they are thought to be ready to pay up to £25m for the 28-year-old’s services – a figure which eclipses the club record fee of £13m paid for Nacer Chadli last summer.

Deeney would also be in line to receive £100,000 a week should any deal go through, which would make him the highest paid player at the Hawthorns.

West Brom’s interest sees them return for a player they were said to be keen on signing during the January transfer window.

Watford hold a relatively strong negotiating position – Deeney still having four years to run on his current deal – and Tony Pulis’ side are likely to have to shell out at least £20m for the Hornets number nine.

Deeney’s importance at Watford is undoubted and he has scored 106 times in seven years at the club, including 23 in two Premier League seasons.

However, he has endured a frustrating campaign under the now departed Walter Mazzarri, with the Italian often opting to drop his skipper regardless of form or fitness.
