Will Hughes has become Watford’s first signing of the summer.

The Derby County midfielder has signed a five-year-deal at Vicarage Road and the Hornets have stated he will join Marco Silva’s squad subject to the completion of medical tests when he returns to the UK after the European Under-21 Championships with England.

The fee is officially undisclosed but as previously reported, we understand it is in the region of £4.5million rising to £8m with add-ons.

It became only a matter of time before the move was announced after former Hornets striker and Rams coach Kevin Phillips effectively confirmed the deal when he said Hughes had "moved on".

Among those to welcome the move is Hornets skipper Troy Deeney, who tweeted: "I like this signing always rated Will very clever player what do you guys think??"

Hughes came through the ranks at Pride Park and made his debut as a 16-year-old in 2011.

Now 22, he made 187 appearances in all competitions for the Rams, scoring 12 goals.
