Tim Krul has been left out of Newcastle’s squad for their pre-season trip to Ireland, sparking reports the one time Watford target is on his way out of St James’ Park.

The Hornets were in for the Dutch international in January, before seeing a deal fall through after the 29-year-old reportedly failed a medical.

Krul went on to join Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar on loan until the end of the season where he made 12 appearances before returning to Tyneside.

He has been training with the first team squad since returning to pre-season training, but Magpies boss Rafa Benitez appears to favour Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman between the sticks.

Benitez is said to be looking for a new keeper to provide competition ahead of the new season and Krul’s future is far from clear.

Watford, meanwhile, are thought to be on the lookout for a new keeper and were linked with a move for Juventus’ Brazilian stopper Neto earlier in the summer.
