Watford claimed a dramatic 3-3 draw against Liverpool as Miguel Britos scored in the third minute of added time on the Premier League’s opening day.

The impressive Stefano Okaka opened the scoring for the hosts at Vicarage Road before Sadio Mane levelled.

Abdoulaye Doucoure marked a fine display with a close-range finish to restore the lead before Heurelho Gomes had a spell to forget just after the half-time break.

The Watford number one conceded a penalt, which Roberto Firmino dispatched, before being lobbed by the Brazilian in the build-up to Liverpool’s third.

Britos bundled home late on to earn a deserved draw on a mixed day for Watford’s new signings as Kiko Femenia, Andre Gray and Richarlison made their debuts.

Here’s how the Golden Boys rated against Liverpool.

Heurelho Gomes – 5

A tough day for the veteran keeper as he gave the visitors a route back into the game with a foul on Salah which allowed Firmino to score from the spot.

In his defence Gomes had to go for the ball as Salah closed in, but it was a costly misjudgement. He compounded the error moments later when rushing off his line to make up Firmino’s mind as he chipped over the keeper to set up Liverpool’s third.

Watford Observer:

Daryl Janmaat – 6

Did nothing wrong in his brief appearance before injury ended the Dutchman’s day early on. Looked in serious discomfort and the injury is the latest in a Watford career which has been plighted by fitness concerns.

Miguel Britos – 7

Poor distribution early on saw him lump the ball out of play on two occasions inside the first 10 minutes. Was largely solid in defence and more than made up for his early troubles when forcing the ball over the line for the equaliser at the death.

It was the centre-backs shot which forced the corner from which he scored.

Younes Kaboul – 6

For 45 minutes he formed part of a defence which largely contained Liverpool. Took a delicate flick around the corner from Emre Can to break through Watford’s defence as the former Spurs man was beaten by the impressive piece of skill.

Jose Holebas – 6

The more effective of Watford’s full-backs and got forward well throughout the match. Delivery was often found wanting and Salah enjoyed lots of joy down the right after Liverpool had taken the lead. The Egyptian had the beating of the left-back and could have put the game to bed when firing wide after escaping Holebas’ attention.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 8

Typically efficient at the base of Watford’s midfield and broke up play well alongside Nathaniel Chalobah.

Got forward well when the opportunity arose and rounded off a strong performance with a goal.

Was involved in the build up to his strike, threading the ball into Tom Cleverley before continuing his run to pick up the scraps from the birthday boys low cross.

Nathaniel Chalobah – 6

A quiet debut for the 22-year-old who joined from Chelsea for an initial £5 million earlier this summer. Did little wrong but will hope to have greater influence on games going forward.

Tom Cleverley – 7

Marked his 28th birthday with an assist for Watford’s second goal, fizzing in a fine low cross which Liverpool could only clear to the feet of Doucoure. Energetic in the extreme in the early stages and was a constant irritant to Liverpool as he looked to disrupt their midfielders.

Watford Observer:

Roberto Pereyra – 6

Involved early on when latching onto Okaka’s through ball and jinking past Dejan Lovren only to see his shot deflect wide.

Watford scored from the resulting corner, but Pereyra failed to maintain his influence on the game. Limped off with injury early in the second half and the hope will be he is not out for too long.

Nordin Amrabat – 6

Worked hard on the right flank, but his delivery was repeatedly below-par. Still managed to get in good positions throughout. Won the ball back well to start the move which led to Watford’s second.

Stefano Okaka – 8

Unplayable in the opening 25 minutes, holding the ball up superbly and linking play between midfield and attack. Marked a fine individual display with a goal which saw him battle to head home at the near post. Played with an energy and determination which suggest he will do all he can to compete with Andre Gray and Troy Deeney for a starting berth.

Substitutes

Kiko Femenia – 5.5

A chastening start to life in the Premier League and was out of position for Mane’s goal as he allowed the Senegalese international to run free. Got forward when he could, but the delivery which he impressed with in pre-season was notably absent.

Richarlison – 7

A confident first appearance in the Premier League and was prepared to run with the ball going forward and work back in defence. Controlled the late corner well before sending a shot across the face of goal which ultimately led to the late leveller.

Watford Observer:

Andre Gray – 6

A hardworking if unspectacular debut after being introduced to try and drag Watford back into the game with the score at 3-2. Had precious little to feed on and in truth had little joy.
