Watford have failed to reach the third round of the League Cup for a fourth successive season after they were beaten 3-2 by Bristol City at Vicarage Road tonight.

The hosts looked to be in control of the game after Etienne Capoue gave them the lead early in the second half. But the Championship side turned the contest on its head through Freddie Hinds and Bobby Reid.

Marco Silva's men were reduced to 10 men when Jose Holebas was sent off for a second booking. And although Adrian Mariappa was to bet an injury-time consolation, the Robins had already made sure of their place in the draw with a third goal from Niclas Eliasson.
