On a day when Miguel Britos’ individual error dented Watford’s hopes of winning a point against Brighton could only be seen as a positive.

The Uruguayan defender was sent off for a shocking foul on Anthony Knockaert and left his teammates facing a tough hour with 10 men.

However, a hard-working display gave Watford a share of the spoils as Marco Silva’s men battled across the pitch.

Here’s how the Golden Boys rated at Vicarage Road.

Heurelho Gomes – 7

Despite Brighton’s numerical advantage, was relatively untested throughout. Made one fine stop to deny Anthony Knockaert with 15 minutes to play.

Kiko Femenia – 6.5

Shifted from right-back to left-back during the match and coped well in both positions. An improved defensive display on previous outings.

Sebastian Prodl – 6.5

Solid in defence as Watford battled hard to secure a valuable point and restricted the Brighton attack to precious few chances.

Christian Kabasele – 7.5

By some way his finest display in a Watford shirt and he was central to Watford keeping Brighton out. Kept Tomer Hemed quiet for most of the match.

Miguel Britos – 1

One of the worst challenges you are likely to see to earn the most deserving of red cards. His actions not only put Watford on the back foot, they could easily have inflicted a serious injury on Anthony Knockaert. Foolish in the extreme.

Watford Observer:

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7

A reliable as ever at the base of the Watford midfield and drove the side forward to launch many of the precious few attacks 10-man Watford mounted.

Nathaniel Chalobah – 6

Gave the ball away on a number of occasions after going close with an early header.

Tom Cleverley – 7.5

Craig Cathcart’s second half injury meant Cleverley spent the second half at right-back. An unfamiliar role, but one he took to with typical commitment to help shut the Seagulls out.

Nordin Amrabat – 7

The unfortunate man who was taken off after Britos indiscretion, Amrabat had been the best attacking outlet in the opening exchanges. It as a surprise to see him come off.

Richarlison – 7

Quiet for most of the game, but came to life in the final 20 minutes. Carries the ball so well and it was his dribbling which gave Watford hope of a late winner which never came.

Watford Observer:

Andre Gray – 6

A thankless task for the Hornets’ record signing up top alone. Did little to help his side’s cause, though, as his hold up play was often found wanting.

SUBS

Craig Cathcart – 6

Injury woes look set to continue after he made way just after the break.

Andre Carrillo – 6.5 Shows glimpses of the quality he has been signed for with a few nice touches and also looks to have pace to burn.

Watford Observer:

Troy Deeney – N/A

A long-awaited return the Premier League action for the skipper but given too little time to make an impact.
