A rampant Manchester City overpowered Watford as they cruised to a 6-0 win at Vicarage Road to move to the summit of the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick to add to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Nicolas Otamendi and Raheem Sterling as Watford failed to lay a glove on their opposition.

The hosts were outplayed throughout, with Manchester City’s movement in attack wreaking havoc as Watford’s unbeaten league start came to an end.

Here’s how we rated the Golden Boys on a chastening day at the Vic.

Heurelho Gomes – 7

So exposed throughout and could do nothing about any of the City goals. It’s testament to the dominance of City that, but for Gomes, it could have been more than 6-0 as he made some good stops in the second half.

Watford Observer:

Daryl Janmaat – 5.5

Brave to battle on after picking up a nasty clash to the head but was culpable for the concession of the second goal. Flew into a challenge as was easily turned by Gabriel Jesus.

Adrian Mariappa – 6

Not the ideal game to make your first start since the 4-3 loss at Stamford Bridge in May and never got to grips with the mesmerising movement of City.

Christian Kabasele – 5.5

Made one outstanding tackle in the first half, but never came close to shackling Aguero or Jesus. Clumsy challenge late on gave City a penalty and sixth goal.

Watford Observer:

Jose Holebas – 6

Given a torrid time on the left in the early stages, with much of City’s attacks coming down the right wing but stuck to his task. Set-pieces provided most of Watford’s brief moments going forward.

Nathaniel Chalobah – 6

In a midfield which was overrun by the sheer class of City, Chalobah, like his midfield teammates was lost and struggled to influence the game.

Abdoulaye Doucouré – 6

Such an impressive start to the season, but Doucoure couldn’t influence the game in the manner he has before this term. Booked.

Watford Observer:

Tom Cleverley – 6.5

The most combative of the central three and out himself about. Looked the get Watford moving forward, but was always fighting a losing battle.

Andre Carrillo – 7

Undoubtedly Watford’s best outfield player and kept running with the ball. Was at his best in the 10 minutes after half-time and showed bravery to get on the ball and take the game to City.

Richarlison – 6

Missed Watford’s two best chances, glancing a header wide in the first half and heading over in the second. Looked to get on the ball and tried his best to worry City by dribbling at the defence, but too little impact.

Andre Gray – 5.5

A worrying slump continues for Watford’s record signing. Precious little to feed on, but really must do better when the ball is played into him.

Too often Gray’s first touch was found wanting and it was little surprise to see Troy Deeney replace him. If Gray’s form continues, it surely won’t be long before the Watford skipper starts in his stead.

SUBS

Etienne Capoue – 5.5

The game was up by the time he came on, but Capoue wasted a golden chance to grab a consolation. The Frenchman headed over from six yards when it was easier to score.

Roberto Pereyra – 6

Good to see the tricky wide man back from injury but did little to lift Watford when introduced.

Troy Deeney – 6

Offered a better focal point in attack than Gray, but not really given long enough to impress. Will be hoping to be given a start soon.
