Heurelho Gomes believes Watford made life easy for Manchester City in their heavy Premier League loss at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The Brazilian stopper had to fish the ball out of his net six times in the drubbing as City mercilessly peppered his goal with efforts.

While nobody would argue Pep Guardiola’s men were anything other than superb, Gomes felt Watford’s own failings helped the Citizens in one of the finest performances he has faced.

“The only way to do well is to be focused and sometimes we lost our focus, which made it easy for them,” he told Goals on Sunday.

“They wanted to score more and they are the kind of team that likes to keep the ball and every time they came forward they tried to score.

“They are, to be honest, one of the best teams that I have faced in the Premier League.”

Fortune did favour City at points as two offside decisions went their way for the first and third goals.

Gomes felt the first changed the game as it saw parity fall away after the Hornets had done well to just about contain City for 27 minutes.

“He was a little bit in front. The official didn’t make the decision and that didn’t help us, because maybe if we carry on at 0-0 it is different,” Gomes said of Sergio Aguero’s opener.

“The third one was offside and was an easy decision. It was by far an offside and we knew that as well. The players almost stopped because it was a surprise.”
