Forgotten man Brice Dja Djedje has revealed his discontent at being left out of Watford’s Premier League squad.

The full-back has barely featured since making a €4 million switch from Marseille last summer and was deemed surplus the requirements, until January at least, by head coach Marco Silva.

Injury to himself and others have played their role in preventing Djedje making his mark, and he was also left out of the club’s selection in January.

Having discovered he was not part of the Hornets’ 25-man squad for the 2017/18 campaign while on international duty with the Ivory Coast, the 26-year-old has aired his disappointment.

“Once the season ended, I barely took any holiday. I started training early to be ready for the new season. During pre-season in July all the staff were happy with me,” he told Ivorian news outlet Sportmania.

“I played some good pre-season games. Everything went well until I sprained a finger in training.

“From that moment, everything changed at the club. I noticed something was up, but no one was telling me anything.

“When I asked for a franc and clear conversation, I was tirelessly told ‘keep training well’.”

Djedje’s irritation is only added to by his claim that a potential move away from Vicarage Road was scuppered by the delayed decision to announce his omission.

“Towards the end of August, a few clubs wanted me on loan, but Watford refused to let me go,” he said.

“I leant in the press that I wouldn’t be in the Premier League squad once again, yet, a few weeks before, the manager told me everything was going well.

“Nothing has been given to me ad an explanation.

“I accepted the decision of the club. I would have preferred to go on loan to another club to be able to get regular game time but they refused.”

The former Evian player arrived at Watford last July and joined the club with an existing foot injury.

He asserts that Watford attempted to rush him back from the problem which only served to make the complaint more severe.

“Watford made me resume playing sooner than expected, so my foot injury got worse. I had to go to Spain, Italy and France to get treatment,” he said.

“The pain was really unbearable. The length of my unavailability was eight months and despite that I managed to make to return in January 2017.”
