Marco Silva denied zonal marking was proving problematic for Watford despite the Hornets shipping a fifth goal from five games from a corner in today's defeat at Everton.
Silva bristled when asked why the system was not working for his side, pointing out that Everton had also conceded a goal from a flag kick despite going man-to-man with Watford.
But the fact remains, the Hornets' defensive record from corners is shocking - and now Jonny Evans, Per Mertesacker, Pedro, Darren Fletcher and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been handed gifts of goals from their inability to defend set plays in the past five games.
"I respect the opinion, but forget it," he said. "We need to do it differently, but Everton did man-to-man and it didn’t work.
"The goal we conceded against Chelsea was a fantastic goal. I understand we need to do things differently, but everything started when we lost the ball and permit the opponent to attack the ball.
"You need to work hard, we scored goals from set-pieces and we need to be different in our position."
