The Football Association have deemed that Troy Deeney will only serve a four-match suspension after Watford failed with an appeal to overturn his red card against Huddersfield on Saturday.

Deeney will be banned for the second time in 2017/18 following his straight red for a foul on Florent Hadergjonaj, and will watch games with Brighton, Leicester, Swansea and Manchester City from the sidelines.

The Hornets captain would have been available for the trip to the Etihad Stadium on January 2 as his first suspension, following an incident against Stoke City, was served retrospectively.

But Watford's appeal, deemed frivelous by the Football Association, has added an extra game.

Marco Silva refused to give his opinion on the foul in the aftermath of the game, although as he hinted the only correct straight red for Watford this season had been Miguel Britos' against Brighton in August, he suggested he disagreed with referee Michael Oliver's decision.

And he felt strongly enough behind closed doors to appeal to the FA regarding the foul, but for the second time in a week has ultimately been unsuccessful.
