No deal has been reached between Watford and Velez Sarsfield for the loan of Mauro Zarate.

The Argentine club released a statement stating the 30-year-old would travel to his n to complete a switch until the end of the season in the next few days.

However, Marco Silva insists no such agreement has yet been reached between Watford, Velez and Dubai outfit Al Nasr, where Zarate is currently on loan.

“It is not official,” Silva explained. “Something will be official when the clubs reach an agreement. For me it is new. I know, of course, what you are talking about, but it is not official.

“We didn’t talk about the situation, myself and the board, and for me it is new.”

Silva has previously stated his desire for more attacking players and went on record about his disappointment at a lack of such players after the last transfer window.

When asked whether he had been tempted to recall Zarate, Silva said the club had yet to reach a decision on the former West Ham United man’s future.

He said: “Since August I've said it's a position we do not have enough players in to make certain decisions and rest players.

“It's very good for us that Richarlison and Andre Carrillo play so often and haven't been injured.

“Zarate, we haven't made a decision. There is nothing official about the reports in Argentina.”
