Watford will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself when Lee Probert takes charge of their meeting with Leicester City on Saturday.

Probert last refereed Watford in a 1-0 loss to Burnley at Turf Moor – a game which turned in the home side’s favour after Marvin Zeegelaar had been shown a straight red card.

The left-back was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Steven Defour in the 39th minute and Scott Arfield netted the winner soon after.

Marco Silva later described the decision as harsh and Watford went on to unsuccessfully appeal Zeegelaar’s red card.

That clash was the second time Probert has officiated a Watford match this season, with the other seeing them run out 2-0 winners against Southampton in September.

City, meanwhile, enjoy a 100 per cent record under Probert, having secured respective 2-0 and 3-1 wins over Brighton and Leeds United.

The 45-year-old has taken charge of 19 games this season, showing 30 yellow and four red cards in the process.
