Michael Oliver will referee Watford’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, with the Hornets looking to get their first win under the official’s watch this season.

The Hornets head to Wembley hoping to end a six game winless run as they look to put the finishing touches on their Premier League survival bid.

Oliver has been in charge of three Hornets games this season, which have seen Watford take a solitary point from a 2-2 draw with West Brom in September.

The 33-year-old last took charge of a Watford game in December when he was the man in charge of a 4-1 loss to Huddersfield Town at Vicarage Road.

That match saw Troy Deeney shown a straight red card for a reckless lunge in the 33rd minute before Town’s Jonathan Hogg was also dismissed later in the day.

Watford later appealed against their captain’s sending off, but were unsuccessful in getting the decision overturned.

The Vicarage Road club were also on the losing side when Oliver refereed their home meeting with Stoke City as they went down to a 1-0 defeat.

Spurs have their own history with red cards and Oliver this season after Serge Aurier was sent off in their 3-2 win over West Ham with the season still in its infancy.

That red card is one of seven shown by Oliver in 38 games this season, as well as 139 yellows, and he was also the centre of Champions League controversy earlier this month.

After Juventus had mounted a stunning second leg comeback against Real Madrid to fight from 3-0 down to 3-3, Oliver awarded Madrid a last minute penalty which Cristiano Ronaldo dispatched.

The decision prompted a furious reaction from Gigi Buffon who Oliver then sent off in what is expected to be the keeper’s last ever Champions League game.

Buffon later claimed Oliver had a “garbage bin” instead of a heart after the game.
