Watford’s medical team are working hard to solve the club’s repeated injury problems, says head coach Javi Gracia.

The Watford boss has seen a host of players forced out with injury since taking over at Watford in January and is currently without a number of key figures.

Gracia believes the medical department at Vicarage Road is working hard to put a stop the club’s recent injury record and says the entire club is focused on improvement.

“We can do different things and, if I improve in training, the medical staff improve, the nutritionists improve, I am sure at the end we will make the team and injuries better,” he said.

“I am happy with the attitude of the medical staff because I know in this moment they are doing everything to improve all the injury situations.

“It is not easy if you have so many injuries to recover them quickly and I am sure they are doing a good job.”

While Gracia is content with his medical team, this season has been one blighted by fitness issues for Watford.

Multiple players have been out for months at a time and Stefano Okaka is the latest player to be ruled out for the remainder of the season with injury.

Gracia arrived at the club with a raft of players sidelined and the situation has hardly improved throughout his short tenure.

Rather than be downcast about the players not as his disposal, Gracia instead chooses to focus on the positives.

He said: “When I arrived I was surprised because on the first day I had 14 players injured, and that is not a normal situation.

“I prefer to be positive and think ok there are 14 out but how many do we have. If we have 11, with this 11 we are going to play and we are going to win.

“This is the best mentality instead of missing what you do not have.”
