Jose Mouinho has confirmed Michael Carrick will start for Manchester United against Watford but Romelu Lukaku will not be risked.

The long-serving midfielder is set to hang up his boots this summer and step into a role as coach at Manchester United.

Sunday’s clash will, therefore, be Carrick’s final Premier League appearance and Mourinho spoke of the midfielder’s character in his pre-match briefing after confirming he will start.

“The most important quality is to be a man. Capital letters – MAN. Proper man. Football and society is not full of them. When you find one you have to value and keep them,” Mourinho said of United’s club captain.

Lukaku, meanwhile, will not be risked in either of the Red Devils final two games of the season and will be left out against West Ham United tomorrow and Watford on Sunday.

The striker has not featured since limping off with an ankle injury in United’s 2-1 defeat of Arsenal last month.

His 27 goals for United this season make him the Old Trafford club’s top scorer, and Mourinho is eager to give Lukaku every chance to be fit for the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 19.
