Javi Gracia says Sir Alex Ferguson recovering from recent surgery on a brain haemorrhage is more important than any footballing matters.

Watford travel to Old Trafford in what will be Manchester United’s first home game since news of Ferguson’s ill-health emerged last week.

The United legend, who won 38 trophies for the club, is out of intensive care but remains in hospital as he continues his recovery.

The news surrounding his health is promising and Gracia says the 76-year-old making a full return to fitness is something anyone associated with football is hoping for.

“First of all, I would like to send my best wishes to him to recover as soon as possible. Everybody knows his quality as a coach I hope for the best,” Gracia said.

“Not only United supporters, but all football fans want the best for Sir Alex Ferguson and hope that he recovers as soon as possible.

“For me, the person is more important than the coach or the history of the club at this moment.”

The Red Devils are still considering the possibility of a show of support to Ferguson during Sunday’s match, but Gracia insisted the atmosphere at Old Trafford will not be impacted.
