Nordin Amrabat has been ruled out of Morocco’s World Cup clash with Portugal after suffering a concussion in a 1-0 defeat to Iran on Friday.

The Watford winger spent the night in hospital after appearing to lose consciousness in the 72nd minute in his country’s opening game in Russia – which was decided by Aziz Bouhaddouz’s 95th minute own goal.

He has been allowed the travel with the rest of his team mates for ahead of Morocco’s match against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, which takes place on Wednesday.

However, due to regulations relating to concussion, Amrabat will not be permitted to play for a week and won’t return until Morocco’s final group game against Spain.

The manner in which Morocco’s medical team opted to treat Amrabat, who enjoyed solid form on loan at Leganes last season, has since been criticised.

They slapped Amrabat around the cheeks, despite the 31-year-old clearly being drowsy after the sickening clash to the head and needing to be substituted as a result.
