Scott Severin could have joined Dundee United sooner but wanted 'another shot' at Watford

Former Watford midfielder Scott Severin revealed he could have signed for Dundee United sooner but he wanted to give it “another shot” at Watford.

Severin joined Dundee United on a free transfer on Tuesday night as the transfer deadline for Scotland came to a close.

The 31-year-old struggled to hold down a first team place at Watford after joining from Aberdeen on a free transfer last summer and made just 11 appearances before going on loan to Kilmarnock, where he appeared 16 times.

Severin told the Press and Journal: “I’d spoken to the manager [Peter Houston] a few times over the summer, so it’s been on and off for a while.

“He asked if there was an opportunity to come on loan but I wanted to give it another shot at Watford.

“It didn’t work out there, so the opportunity came up again to come to United and I was delighted to join.”

Severin was signed by Watford predominantly as a midfielder but he explained that he expects to play at centre half for Dundee.

He said: “The majority of the games I have played in the last year or so have been at centre half, so that’s no problem.

“People said to me six or seven years ago they thought it was my best position anyway. I spoke to the manager about what he’s got planned for me and it does look like I’ll be at the back, so I’m happy with that and will be doing my best for the team.”

I guess the early injuries and form of John Eustace hardly helped him.

At least he made an effort to get back into the team rather than throwing his dummy out.

Good luck to the lad..seems to be a success in Scotland anyway.

WFC4ever is probably right about John Eustace.
We have needed a centre half for some time now and I would have thought he could have been tried out in that position for the reserves.
I'm not sure he was given an entirely fair crack at Watford.

Agree with Cliff ... he's yet another player that Malkay signs then decides he doesn't fancy ....

.... and it does throw into question the club's recruitment policy

recruitment is based around the chief scout and where he resides? which is roughly 240 miles from watford!!?

Does seem that way...I sure the bloke is a nice chap but have to say since coming in the signings haven't been great generally!
