Malky Mackay believes Watford supporters have the right to boo their side if they are unhappy with the performance because fans “pay their money”. Do you agree with the Hornets boss?

Watford were booed off the Vicarage Road pitch at half time last night after a poor first half display.

Some managers have openly criticised their own fans in the past after their players were booed but Mackay does not agree with that stance.

Mackay explained: “The booing is understandable because we were 2-0 down at home at half time and not playing well, I don’t mind that.

“They pay their money and they are a great crowd which have been very supportive of me during my time here.

“What I have asked from my players, for the crowd, is that they come off the pitch with sweat on their jersey.

“With the young group we have here, you are going to see inconsistency with youth and I think our crowd can handle that. They will see inconsistency in performance but they won’t allow lack of effort and I think that can be really cast against the team, a lack of effort.

“Even in the first half the players were trying to press the game so there was not a lack of effort.

“At the end of the game, they will go home having seen a team which try to play football, win the game and give them entertainment.”
