Watford manager Sean Dyche was “really proud” of his players after their 3-2 win over Peterborough United and claimed neighbours Arsenal provided an unusual inspiration.

The Hornets' ended their four-match winless run with a much improved display at Vicarage Road, to lift themselves out of the Championship's bottom three.

And Dyche stated London Colney neighbours Arsenal were an inspiration going into today's crucial game.

“It is fair to say I am really proud of the lads,” Dyche said. “We all know what the reality of going on a losing run and it had to end.

“We came within 20 seconds of stopping it last week and sometimes you bottom out and look at and say 'ok, we will build from here'. Today I thought we did a fine job.

“It is a strange sort of inspiration but I was watching Arsenal and everyone was saying everything must change when they lost 8-2 and then they go and beat Chelsea today. Sometimes it galvanises you.

“We have had an awkward week; we have had people injured at the last minute and we have had a mixed team - I was pleased seven of the new signings played today – so to come through and deliver a good performance, nice first half and a tactical second half, I think we were worthy winners today.”

There were some impressive individual performances today, with strikers Marvin Sordell and Chris Iwelumo linking up well and Prince Buaben and Jonathan Hogg also putting in good displays – to name a few.

Dyche said: “I think it is another important sign [good individual performances]. I tell the lads all the time, I love the lads, I think they are great and I think their honesty is great, their quality, their willingness to improve and their willingness to get better. That is always part of it.

“I asked them to play with less fear and be on the front foot. Today we did that.

“Sometimes it is a hard quality to find when things are not going your way but today there were some really strong performances and when they mesh together as a team it is always a good sign.”
