Udinese release statement stressing Pozzo takeover of Watford 'is not official'

The Pozzo family have released a statement through their Italian club Udinese stressing the takeover of Watford is still not complete.

Watford put out a statement last night confirming the board of directors had agreed "in principle" to sell the club to the Pozzo family.

But Udinese, who are owned by Giampaolo Pozzo, have this afternoon stated the "deal is not official".

The announcement read: "The Pozzo family, through its communication company, would like to point out that any news or rumours concerning the purchase of Watford Football Club has to be regarded as premature, because, even if there actually is a real interest, the dealing has not been officialised yet."

Udinese's statement comes after Gino Pozzo made a comment to Gazzetta Dello Sport about Gianfranco Zola becoming the manager of Watford. Click here to read more.

Hope that Bas and The Board don't anger The Pozzo's into walking away from this deal by their premature revelations. It shows typically bad business practice by Bas in particular and possibly The Board as well.

If Pozzo buys Watford it could be possible that in a few years Watford will go in the Premier: the same thing happened when he bought Granada: it was in 3rd division and now is in the Liga. I'm a supporter of Udinese who knows very well both the Pozzo family and Watford as I lived near there for many years and infact when I come to England I go to Vicarage Road to supports the hornets

Hmmm? Who reckons they will walk away as Baz opened his mouth too early??

Bazs pen is probably in the safe and he cannot get it to sign the transfer document.

I hope this is sorted out sooner rather later. They haven't said it won't happen but it would be typical Watford if somethin went wrong now.
Everything crossed!!!

akureyri - funniest thing I've read all day AND that's considering I've read some of the laughably childish comments on other WO articles

Actually this statement was in response to his son prematurely stating to the Italian press that they would be looking to appoint Zola as manager and more likely to appease the Watford board as nothing has been signed yet. I am sure the Watford board would have sought approval from the Pozzo family prior to making an announcement that a deal in principal had been agreed between both parties. Whilst nothing has been signed the Watford board would not like it if Dyche left for another club based on the premature Zola comments.

Dyche should be retained, at least for the time being. Evolution, not revolution.

I hope this goes through successfully but to paraphrase David Coleman, I think he's gone too early.
Certainly hope not!

I'm not entirely happy to see Pozzo declare on the Italian Clubs site, that the deal is not officially struck yet, fills me with doubt!

Please have this done by end of the week!!!!!!!

oh dear just read that Kuszczak
has gone to Brighton,
I know that the deal has not been done yet but it would have been a great signing for us and a real statement of ambition.

Watford board have approved the deal in principle.

It does not mean the Pozzo family have rubber stamped the deal neither does it mean the parties have entered into a contract, nor even signed Heads of Terms.

Give it a fortnight and then we will know more.

In meantime I was so NOT impressed to see that our loan keeper had signed for Brighton.

Strange Comment ! why would they do that ! Bucks , Mr B and LD are exactly the type of supporters any ambitious club would want to have on board.
People with passion, loyalty, drive and determination to see Watford back where they belong. Its the wimpy mugs like you , Franky Frazer, Emmer green Hornet and Mr Magoo that would worry me !!.
But your probarbly all to busy eating bucket loads of humble pie !! Ciao

Well now there is a spanner in the works, I hope the man from the Trust and ALL other negative posters are happy. Now we will have to stay with Baz, lets see if the pitch repair is completed on time.

keithmercer....when you say "back to where we belong" i assume you mean the premiership? I was a little confused as while it would be good be established in the top flight in our 131 year history we have spent less than a decade in the top flight so to say that we belong there most would say we dont belong there and we have spent the majority of our time in the bottom 2 divisions

Woa, hold your horses Keithmercer and Toshhorn.

Just because I dont dislike/hate LB for being a former bankrup and have judged him on what he has actually done on the club does NOT mean I lack passion, loyalty or ambition for the club.

My opinion of him has not been proven wrong at all so why again these nonsense remarks about having to apologise?

As to Buckler et al being 'exactly' the kind of supporters a club needs are you talking about making threats of violence and throwing insults just because someone has a different opinion to them? Sorry, but that is precisely the type of person that gave English football a bad name and precisely the type of person that the game doesnt need. Passion is one thing, wanting to be violent is another.

Tosh, I dont think anyone has been negative about the potential new owners. I've pointed out some of their history (but only to highlight the gross hypocracy of people ike Buckler) but said time and again i'm happy to judge them on what they do at and for Watford and at worst people have just expresses reservations due to the unknown.

If a potential new owner sees such mild comments and runs off then we're probably better off without them!
