The Watford Observer understands that Watford FC directors are at this moment in talks with the Pozzo family and are close to agreeing “the transfer of ownership” of the club.
The Hornets owner Laurence Bassini claimed he was pulling out of the deal this afternoon due to the Pozzo family being unable to provide “proof of funds” – with the Stanmore businessman claiming he expected £12m for the club.
However, sources have told the Watford Observer that Hornets directors David Fransen and Stuart Timperley are still in communication with the Pozzo family and talks are progressing well despite Bassini’s previous claims.
The Pozzos, who own Italian club Udinese and Spanish side Granada, have been interested in Watford for several months and it was announced a deal was close this week.
Bassini had rejected the family were interested in the Hertfordshire club on several occasions in recent months – as recently as last week - but announced he did plan to sell on Sunday.
