Watford considering new shirt sponsor instead of The Happy Egg Company

Watford considering new shirt sponsor Watford considering new shirt sponsor

Watford are considering replacing The Happy Egg Company as shirt sponsor despite only announcing the deal less than a month ago.

The Hornets agreement with the egg distribution firm was announced on June 22 - a week before the Pozzo family's takeover was complete.

But the Watford Observer understands the Hornets' new regime are keen to find a new kit sponsor and the club believe they can now attract a more lucrative offer.

We believe talks between the two parties are at an early stage and it is unclear whether the possibility of The Happy Egg Company becoming 'club sponsor' has been proposed.

The Happy Egg Company are based nearby in Tring and their boss, Peter Dean, is a long-standing Watford fan.

Dean has had a box at Vicarage Road for more than ten years and sponsors one of the end of season awards.

Joe Garner Both The Happy Egg Company and Watford refused to comment on the matter when approached by the Watford Observer this week.

The company's logo was not included on Watford's shirts during Tuesday night's game at Boreham Wood.

In all seriousness this could be a massive commercial own goal from Watford FC.

If Peter Dean, who it looks like is a long standing Watford fan, holder of one of the boxes etc is not totally happy with this it could cause him to be disillusioned with the new regime and that disillusionment could filter quickly through other local businesses. Even if there is a bigger deal to be had now, is it right to irritate one of our long standing local partners?

short term thinking.

Perhaps it might be long term thinking too. As I understand it the Pozzos are long game players so there thinking on sponsorship would be the same.

That's a cracking answer lutondown, before we scramble the reasons, maybe being a fan he will appreciate the need for a better deal and he can also make out of it by being the club sponsor instead of shirt sponsor for a lower cracking fee, then everyone can be happy and not get fried about it???

We all looked at the new spnsor and said 'clucking hell!'. Admit it, we were all thinking it!

However, agree that we should not ruffle anymore feathers than is necessary but if theres a chance of hatching a better sponsorship deal (hardly going to strike fear into the oppo with this one) then that is a good thing in my mind!

Im pretty sure we would have to pay a fee for getting them off our shirts - it would be a clause in the contract. Im sure they will sweeten the deal and give him a box for free or something but im pretty sure he is not going to be that upset. If we can set up a longer term deal with a more established company than that is only a good thing.

I met Peter at a Rugby Match when we were entertained by same 'supplier'. He was a nice guy and a life long supporter.

Shame if we upset him, also have shirts been sold with logo for this season. they might be a collectors item.

But as the Pozzos are so respectful, they will be mindful on not upsetting local support and will no doubt tread warily as if on eggshells.

Seriously if they don't agree compensation with the merry chicken, then they will damage their credibility. Not that this has been a concern to some previous owners.

Agreed! The Happy Egg have had lots of publicity out of this already, I had never heard of them before the announcement, and it may not cost them a penny. If Peter Dean is a true supporter, hopefully he will see the good in the positive publicity he has had, and will allow the club to find a more lucrative sponsor to come along and plough money into his beloved club.

This is between the club and Peter Dean, so all these comments are irrelevant. I'm sure the club don't want to alienate "Happy Eggs", at the same time I'm sure Peter would want the club to feel comfortable and not be ridiculed and sell lots of shirts etc, so I'm sure all will work out for the best. If another company can offer 10 times the previous offer of sponsorship, as any fan you would want the best for the club, as this benefits your "pleasure" of being a fan. So alot of these comments don't help, let the club and Peter sort it out. And agreed, the publicity has done more good than having the name on our shirts. I agree with the suggestion that we should all but Happy Eggs in the supermarket ..... COYHE

Best decision they have made so far!!!

I can understand having advertising boards with this logo, but come on what a joke decision before the take over. Having the right image/brand is so important. Watford players would look so stupid with that sponsorship on it.

The guy maybe a nice guy and Watford fan , but shouldn't get upset as he is getting fair bit of extra advertising as everyone will be speaking about it.

Another great decision from the previous board!!

I think the new kit was nice, but most people I know wouldn't buy it cos of the sponsors on front.

Eggs are laid by females of many different species, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish, and have probably been eaten by mankind for millennia. Bird and reptile eggs consist of a protective eggshell, albumen (egg white), and vitellus (egg yolk), contained within various thin membranes. Popular choices for egg consumption are chicken, duck, quail, roe, and caviar, but the egg most often consumed by humans is the chicken egg, by a wide margin.

Egg yolks and whole eggs store significant amounts of protein and choline, and are widely used in cookery. Due to their protein content, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) categorizes eggs as Meats within the Food Guide Pyramid. Despite the nutritional value of eggs, there are some potential health issues arising from egg quality, storage, and individual allergies.

Chickens and other egg-laying creatures are widely kept throughout the world, and mass production of chicken eggs is a global industry. There are issues of regional variation in demand and expectation, as well as current debates concerning methods of mass production, with the European Union's ban on battery farming of chickens.
