Scunthorpe United set to complete signing of Watford defender David Mirfin

Watford defender David Mirfin will complete his move to former club Scunthorpe United today.

Mirfin joined the Hornets on a free transfer from Scunthorpe last summer but was unable to break into the team and was loaned out to Alan Knill's side for the second half of the season.

The 27-year-old made 19 appearances for the Iron during his loan spell and played a huge role as the club avoiding relegation from League One.

Scunthorpe have wanted to sign Mirfin on a permanent deal all summer but were initially rebuffed by the Hornets' previous regime.

Scunny have very little money but were still hoping to secure a loan deal after the initial rejection.

However, Mirfin is again surplus to requirements at Watford following the Pozzo takeover and has now been allowed to leave the club.

It is unclear whether Mirfin's move is a free transfer or for a nominal fee.

Mirfin has had his medical today and the signing should be confirmed within 24 hours.

Good luck to the lad. Shame it didn't work out, but still a better signing than Ramon Vega

Vega gave 100% (unfortunately!) every time he played.

What can we say about Mirfin? Not much, really. A very small footnote in the history of the Club. His cost to the club? A year of pointless wages. I suppose that has to be better than Ellington and most of Vialli's signings.
Good luck to him, anyway, at a club that obviously appreciates whatever he has to offer.

Far from impressive for us was Mr. Murfin but perhaps he will be happier back at Scunny. Good luck to him and hope it works out for him. They are still people in need of a job and families to care for. The pressure should now be on others, such as Jenkins, to find a new club rather than play for our reserves (stiffs) when so many loaness are coming in.

Who’s going to take over his role for the longest ever warm up routine? Was it 7 or 8 consecutive matches?

Best of luck Tank. At least you will start at a club that wants you.

Apologies for you being described as deadwood and waste like Lloyd, a very loyal servant, but now we are a major club its the way delusional people like Jason and Leon comment.

Of course we have sold you, Adrian, Loachie etc and we have signed ???????????????

BTW did GT resign because he wanted to escape Bas or avoid the Pozzos.

Oops maybe they are slightly premature.Fingers crossed they maybe right but I await an announcement or two.

I am sorry to hear this, but it was in his best interests if he wanted first-team football. Maybe he could put in a good word for Ross Jenkins at Scunthorpe?

Too much knocking of current players here, just remember we are not playing the same football as under Dyche. Let Gianfranco Zola decide who he can use, his coaches decide who they can improve and never deride a decision to play them or bring them on as sub.
With Ca. 50 games per season you can bet Zola will want to rotate and for that he will undoubtedly need his 2nd string.
Once players have left the club you can mock who you like but I suggest you reel it in for those we keep. That means a second chance for all including Ross and Matty.

The deadwood clear out started with Bas and now it's time to get rid of the other waste of spaces! We have enough to field a whole team! #forzawatford

Zola and Garner just might suprise us. Anyway, Zola's assesment of Mirfin seems to be spot on.
