Highly-rated Watford midfielder Sean Murray has agreed a new five-year contract with the club.

Murray only signed a contract extension until 2015 five months ago but the 18-year-old has now agreed a new deal until 2017.

The Pozzo family, who took over Watford in the summer, have a track record of tying their players down to long contracts.

Murray, who was wanted by Manchester City before signing his first professional contract, scored seven goals in 19 appearances last season and was named the club's Young Player of the Year.

Fantastic news, long Pozzo contracts mean they have great belief in a player. Sean will now be treated as an asset and not just a squad player. Don't be disappointed if he spends time on loan in Italy or Spain, it will all be part of his development.

Very good point Bringe. At present its all about Watford FC but sooner or later we will help our owners other higher based teams. But i am convinced our owners want us in the Premier asap.

Great news. And take note Gavin Massey: There is a future for the youngsters under the new regime, so long as you're good enough!

I don't think they will be send any of our best players on loan to either of the other clubs, not in the short term at least. Their aim for us is to get us established in the Prem asap. It's where their largest income will come from. They won't want to jeopardize this.

I see this as another sign of the Pozzos long term commitment and ambition for us. Excellent news in both respects.

That reminds me. I haven't seen Marvin Sordell or Ashley Young's names in our matchday squad recently. Whatever happened to them? Oh yes, we sold them.

Why has SM come back after summer looking like such a porker? I can't believe a good professional would do that never mind a youngster like him. Who advises and guides these guys when they're not at work?

Yeah, and I'm just big-boned. Or maybe it's the new shirts. The lad's put on weight, and he's been below his usual high standard of form. QED

I dont think he'll be going to Italy or Spain and as great as it is that he has been tied down on a long contract this is as much to protect his sell on value as anything else.

This isnt a critism by the way, just the way it is. The only difference between the Pozzo's and former owners is that more is being spent on players in the hope that far more is gained in future transfer fees.

The only short term difference is the goal of gaining and keeping Prem status. Once that is achieved and if SM's value increases and there is interest in him he'll be off

He is 18/19, he is still growing and will have spells when size/weight goes up, then stablises, then he grows a bit more. Won't settle till at least 20/21. He is "Rooney esque" build wise. With all the support and advice around him, expect him to peak within a few weeks and will be unstoppable once again.

Agreed, too much focus on the lads apparent size. Maybe he has bulked up, who knows what lurks under that jersey. He like the rest are probably just trying to adapt to GFZ's style. He will come good as class is forever
