Italy and Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta rejects move to Watford

Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

Veteran Italian striker Vincenzo Iaquinta has rejected a move to Watford, according to his agent.

Iaquinta, 32, spent seven years at Udinese before joining Juventus in 2007 but is now surplus to requirements.

The Pozzos attempted to sign the experienced striker for Watford but he has turned down the switch.

"He rejected the offer from Watford. As for the rest, it’s all pretty static at the moment," agent Alessandro D’Amico said.

"Hamburg? There were a few contacts, but nothing more. In Italy we are waiting to see what will happen in the next few hours."

Why do we need another goalie? If Almunia gets injured we can get someone on loan. No decent keeper is going to come to sit on the bench.

Has a muscle imbalance and not fit either

So we will probably sign him tomorrow!

Average a goal every 3 games at Serie A level, so 15 to 20 in championship if he reconsiders

To be fair would be a great addition but GZ like to play with 1 frontman, meaning there would be a lot of unhappy strikers at the club so not a total disaster if he didnt sign..........

Holly68 says...
8:23pm Thu 30 Aug 12

We only have 1 Top Quality (when fit) Striker in Geijo. Big Chris will be a back up, Garner will probably go out on loan, Deeney will get released or loaned, so we need at least one more Top Notch Striker, as I expect rotation with so many games. In Italy they don't play as often.

Win lose or draw, let's get behind the club and let's increase attendances ! This is the biggest short term impact anyone has had on our club thus far with the long term committment. Having looked at the atmosphere at Granada on YouTube, we the fans need to raise our game so these chaps don't think we play in a real vicarage !!

I hate to be a killjoy but i thought big C I did a great job against Birmingham .I am all for silky skilled footballers but still feel a big targetman is a big plus in the championship and Chris turned up on saturday with a big headache for the brums. Gianfranco is very friendly with many ex players one being Gus Poyet, himself being of both power and skill in his time as a target man.

Big Chris done great, but if you remember just before half time he had a 50/50 with keeper but his legs have gone. Thats where Geijo would finish

Absolutely agree with you Holly !
was at the game tuesday night and it was awful but has not deterred me from going to get a season ticket for the rookery.
used to have one but only get to get to about 10-12 games a season as I work in the wedding business and tend to be busy on Saturdays.

What a lot of moaners on here. I am 73 and travelled from Kent for a treat as it was only a fiver to get in. What a difference to hoof ball, with mainly a second 11 out there I saw some slick passing on the ground and some spot on long passes. Oh! I wish I could afford to see our first 11 gel, we are in for a great season once we are in gear. Yes, I am an ex ball boy. Yes, my first game I watched was 1950, PNE 3rd round, I even predicted the score in the replay at PNE 1-0 to the 'blues. Yes I was steward on trains and coaches. Yes, I cycled from Watford to Gillingham age 14. Yes, I was there when we stuffed Soton on that heady night. Yes I saw the original Ross on his debut and I thought what the hell has GT bought :-) Now look at us, a new regime, it bodes well for the future of WFC if only I could afford to be at every game I would. So stop moaning lets hear the Rookery of old, totally behind the ORNS, lets hear you guys PLEASE

A few of us remember lots of that, well I do from 1969 anyway.
Must if seen you as I was always on the solitary coach ( keen days) that went to every northern outpost. Think the stewards of he SC were Roger Flemming, Steve Kitchen and I also remember Geordie Wilf who sat at the top of the old Supporters club.
So those on here who witter on about the so called Watford way, have not been around to see the many facets that actually has.
Like you Keith seen some real poor teams and managers, seen owners come just to bleed us dry, seen real fans such as Elton come and help realise their own dreams.
So I can only conclude that this is a good thing, financially secure, the prospect of football played as an entertainment and a very bright future.

Vicenzo Iaquinta knows he would be down the order because Troy Deeney would hit him on the training field.

Hey! LD, Roger Fleming, that is someone I knew very well, I hope it wasn’t you that I threatened to confiscate the Away Travel Card from (still have mine} More on my cycle ride to Gillingham, met the team coming out of an hotel on the A2 on the way, was told to come to the dressing room before the game, was given a ticket for the stand, had tea with the players after the game. Was told to take the wheels off my bike and they put it in the boot of the coach, stopped at the same hotel for a meal (Jimmy Bowie nicked most of my chips) It peed down all the way back, was given £2-50 from a whip round amongst the players and I only had to cycle from Watford to Croxley Green and it was dry by then. Worst part of it, we lost 3-1 if my memory is correct. Going back from then, I remember the 4th round v Man U also in 1950, Harry Oliver tripped on the ball and Jack Rowley nipped in to score the only goal. All the kids were sat on the dog track in the snow Oh! Such memories. All of you, get behind the team, I feel we are going places in the not so distant future.

As SA has said, great posts from you 2 with some real history. I'm 44 and think I have missed 2 or 3 home games in the last 32 years, but you make me feel like a newbee supporter.

Some really don't appreciate how lucky we are with this takeover and the security that it brings. These guys have football in their blood, they are here for the long term and have already showed intent beyond our wildest dreams. If promotion does not happen this season or next we will still have owners that have not got a history of walking away from any projects to date and will carry until they reach the objective of establishing us as a top tier club.

We have a manager regarded as the best player to ever grace the premiership and now have a squad full of multi million pound talent.

So any stay away fans, get on board now and be part of what will be another amazing journey in the history of WFC.
