Southend United loanee Britt Assombalonga wins mini-battle against Watford team-mate Adam Thompson

Watford forward Britt Assombalonga scored his second goal in the space of a week as his early header earned Southend a 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Assombalonga’s second goal in four games was made even sweeter as it came against team mate and fellow loanee Adam Thompson, who started for Wycombe.

Assombalonga told Southend's website: "We were texting each other before the game and speaking on Twitter winding each other up. So now I’ve scored I’m not going to let him forget it."

Fellow loanee Dale Bennett, who joined AFC Wimbledon from Watford last week, enjoyed an impressive debut against Dagenham and Redbridge, despite the game ending 2-2.

Bennett picked up a knock in the first half but finished the game, earning rave reviews from Wimbledon boss Terry Brown.

Brown told his club's website: "Dale had a nasty bang on his knee and I was looking to take him off because he was limping, but he would not come off and he is that kind of character.

"He is as tough as nails and at this moment in time we need that kind of centre-back."

Good to see the loaned players doing well and hopefully this game time in a competitive league rather than reserve football is what they need to improve so hopefully they become better players!

Couldn't care a less. All I care about is the 5-1 loss at Derby which is humiliating.

Of course follow our ex-lads with interest. Few to be seen in a Watford shirt the way things are going and with Harefield almost a busted flush!! Just hope that some sanity returns and we are not just bringing on young players from the owners or taking people that are getting to the end of their career. It is the state of the dressng room now that concerns me the most - and why did Tiny go? Any way lets hpe by Xma we are all laughing coswe are top of the league

RobboBTC you are the Hampton. That defeat is only 3 days ago. If you don't care about losing 5-1 then you are an absolute oaf.

Hogweed, of courese I care about that result & I am as gutted as any Watford supporter. I'm also willing to look at the bigger picture. We're going to have ups & downs but I'm convinced with the players we now have at the club & the backing of the Pozzo's we will do very well. I'd rather be where we are now than have that absolute buffoon Bassini in charge along with a financial crisis & very realistically a relegation battle on our hands.
