Watford have revealed John Eustace has undergone a “minor” back operation but are hopeful the skipper will be back in action in a “few weeks”.
The Hornets captain has not played since the opening day success at Crystal Palace because of a back problem but Gianfranco Zola has stressed the importance of having the midfielder back fully fit.
The head coach told Watford’s official website: “We are all aware of the importance of John both on and off the pitch.
“More important than rushing him back, it’s important he gets fit and that he’s 100 per cent.
“There’s no point asking John to play with pain, because this would reduce his capabilities and possibilities during the game.
“Hopefully we’ll have him back in action in a few weeks.”
