Watford midfielder Connor Smith has signed a contract extension with the club until 2016 and the Hornets have the option of an additional year.

Smith, who joined the Hornets Academy after he finished runner-up on Sky’s Football’s Next Star, has made two substitute appearances for the Golden Boys this season.

The 19-year-old spent some of last season on loan at Wealdstone and he made his debut for Watford as a substitute in last month's win at Crystal Palace.

Boooooo the Pozzo's don't care about the youth of our team. Booooo young players will just be sold off with the academy. Pozzo's out.

Great news.

Just proves the doubters wrong again, why wouldn't the pozzos want to tie down the best young talent for longer deals.

Expect Thompson and assombalonga to be next!

Yet another great contract extension, have to feel that neither of these would have happened under the old regime. Well done Pozzo's.

Not convinced this wouldnbave happened without the home grown players rule. We need some young Brits to keep the bench warm. Good player but not sure how much chance he will get under the current regime

If they needed home grown bench the why give a 5 year deal, that means they have to pay salary for 5 years, so your post is ribbish

Absolute madness giving him such a long contract as he can now totally relax not having to worry about his future. He will probably be cr*p from now on.Saw him at Wealdstone last season and he looked very average!
